Battle Angel Alita finds it’s Alita!

Collider was the first to report (not that the trades gave them props for it) that Rosa Salazar has won the highly coveted lead role in the long gestating feature version of “Battle Angel Alita”.

Based on the manga series by Yukito Kishiro, the film will feature the “Maze Runner : The Scorch Trials” actress as an amnesiac female cyborg who’s rescued from a scrapyard and put back together. Her character Alita, who only remembers her training in a deadly martial art, becomes a hunter-warrior who tracks down vicious criminals.

Salazar’s other credits include “Insurgent” with Shailene Woodley and the upcoming “Chips”.

Though long set up by James Cameron as a vehicle for himself to direct, the “Avatar” director last year handed over the reigns to Robert Rodriguez.
