Idina Menzel is set to star in a remake of 80s film “Beaches” for Lifetime, set to premiere on the network in 2017.
Menzel will star as CC – the role originally played by Bette Midler – an aspiring singer trying to make it in LA. In the film, CC meets Hillary, the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer, and the two begin a turbulent but strong friendship.
The role of Hillary is yet to be cast.
The film will feature new versions of the classic songs “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love”, and include several other songs recorded specifically for the movie.
The TV movie will begin production on August 15 in Vancouver. Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan will exec produce with Allison Anders directing from a script by Bart Barker and Nikole Beckwith.
