Lifetime has scheduled their [unnecessary] remake of ’80s classic “Beaches” for Saturday, January 21.
Starring Idina Menzel and Nia Long in the Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey roles, the new flick sees Allison Anders step in for the late , great Garry Marshall on directing duties. Making a return, however, are all-new versions of the classic tunes “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love” – – both of which are likely to be overshadowed by Midler’s 30-year-old versions (sorry, I’m a cynic; but this is “Beaches”, yo!).
The lifetime version has the same storyline as the original – but I wonder how many tissues this one will require? Guess we’ll find out in January.
Lifetime’s version of “Pretty Woman”, starring Oprah Winfrey as the Hooker with a Heart of Gold, can only be just around the corner.
