Beckinsale as Barbarella?

Inheriting the loin-cloth from Jane Fonda

Kate Beckinsale. Shaggy Bra. Cloth Pants. Working up a Sweat.

Sold.

The “Underworld” babe is a supposed “frontrunner” for the “Barbarella” remake, according to The Daily Express. The same paper apparently said Sienna Miller was the frontrunner – and that was just two days ago; so don’t go making your fake photoshop ‘Beckinsale in Barbarella’ posters just yet fan-boys!

Back in the day, the buxom Drew Barrymore was the favourite to play the intergalactic shagger – and I gotta say, I can picture Barrymore getting wild in the rocks; wearing jack shit to cover her ta-ta’s and getting nasty with creeps; after all, she does it on a daily basis… she is, Barbarella. I believe that was about ten years ago though, sometime between “Boys on the Side” and “The Wedding Singer”, and the guy that was eyeballing Barrymore for the gig back then is probably either a) dead b) working in reality-television c) now serving her coffee and scones.

In fact, I believe it was Barrymore herself who owned or part-owned the remake rights. She had hired John August (“Charlies Angels”) to write it at one stage.

Dino De Laurentiis, best known for making never-ending “Hannibal” movies these says, is the man in charge of the remake [now]. He’s apparently planning to make the “ultimate science-fiction adventure heroine: smart, strong, funny and sexy”.

They’ve a fighting chance – “Casino Royale” writers Robert Wade and Neal Purvis are writing the script. (In that case, why not get “Bond” babe Eva Green to wear the ripped five-piece? – – she’s smokin’)

The original film, based on Frenchman Jean-Claude Forest’s comic-book creation, was a box-office flop but has since acquired cult status. Jane Fonda – back when she had some sizzle in her snazzle – had the lead role. As far as I know, there’s no plans to have Fonda involved in the remake… not even as Barbarella’s mother… or a woman watering her spacely flowers.

So anyway… Kate Beckinsale. Barbarella. That’s the overblown British rumour of the day.
