Brosnan’s Coup gets a title change

The film previously known as “The Coup” – and starring Pierce Brosnan and Owen Wilson – has been retitled “No Escape”. In addition, it won’t make it’s originally planned March release; instead, the John Erick Dowdle directed thriller will now hit Sep 2.

The story centers on an American businessman (Wilson) as he and his family settle into their new home in Southeast Asia. Suddenly finding themselves in the middle of a violent political uprising (i.e., a coup), they must frantically look for a safe escape as rebels mercilessly attack the city.

The movie, also starring Lake Bell, decided to play title switcheroo after the title “The Coup” was given the thumbs down by [daft] test audiences, many of whom had no idea what a ‘Coup’ was.
Interestingly enough, “No Escape” is the title of a fun but forgettable ‘90s actioner starring Ray Liotta.
