It’s interesting that the last decade introduced us to so many amazing, incredible visionary independent films and yet it was also the decade that Marvel Studios reigned supreme. Thing is, while “Captain America : The Winter Soldier” and “Black Panther” were quite spectacular and very enjoyable film experiences – in the same way “Star Wars : The Force Awakens” and “Jurassic World” were – they seem to have a faster expiry date and less appeal the more the years go on. On the other hand, a movie like Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar”, Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty” or the fantastically crafted “Mad Max Fury Road” only seem to get better with age – you appreciate something new in and about them the more the days tick on. Not to say a couple of flashy studio sequels didn’t make the list, they have, but for the pure reason that these additions surpass the limitations of being merely a ‘comic book movie’ or ‘Bond sequel’- they’re simply great films.
Without further ado, here are my (not necessarily ‘the best films’) top 20 films of the 2010’s – argue among yourselves.
