Call of Duty cinematic universe in the works!

Not content with letting Stan Lee have all the fun, Activision Blizzard Studios are planning a series of films based on ‘their’ universe of product. In this case, they’ve nutted out a plan to turn the big-time game franchise “Call of Duty” into a film franchise – one that would potentially set up numerous sequels, spin-offs, television shows, crossovers and a tie-in McDonalds promo.

Speaking with The Guardian, co-president Stacy Sher said “We have plotted out many years…We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like ‘Black Ops,’ the story behind the story. The ‘Modern Warfare’ series looks at what it’s like to fight a war with the eyes of the world on you. And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on.”

Sher’s got a good back catalogue of films behind her, having produced such films as “Pulp Fiction”, “Reality Bites”, “Gattaca” and “Django Unchained”, so she would seem to know what she’s doing. Suppose the final word will be with my male fanboy buddies.

A first instalment in the “Call of Duty” ‘cinematic universe’ could hit as early as next year. Suppose it depends on Dwayne Johnson’s schedule, right?!
