“Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star Rooney Mara has replaced Mia Wasikowska in Todd Hayne’s “Carol”. The movie, starring Cate Blanchett, tells the “story of a burgeoning relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York”. Mara’s role is of a young woman working at a department store who longs for a better life. (Deadline)

Child 44

Vincent Cassel has replaced Philip Seymour Hoffman in “Child 44”. Filming since June, the movie also stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, and Joel Kinnaman, and is “the tale of a military cop investigating a series of child murders in 1950s Stalinist Russia, adapted by Oscar-nominated Richard Price from Tom Rob Smith’s bestseller.” (Deadline)

Franny

Richard Gere will reunite with “Arbitrage” producers Treehouse Pictures for “Franny”, playing “a hedonistic philanthropist who ingratiates himself into the lives of a newlywed couple in order to re-create the life he once had.”

Justin Timberlake has stepped in to produce – and some speculate, headline – the remake of Taylor Hackford’s 1980 film. Ryan Gosling was previously attached to star but dropped out due to a full dance-card. (The Playlist)
