Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo wanted for Vacation reboot

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about their upcoming “Vacation” reboot, co-writer and co-director John Francis Daley said he and collaborator Jonathan Goldstein would like to try and get Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo to reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold in the picture (as previously noted, Clark would no longer be the male lead captaining the vacation; his son Rusty, now grown up, would be the film’s main focus).

“It is something that we’ve been warned not to screw up,” Daley told the trade. “We have confidence that there’s still a lot to tell in the story of the Griswolds. And we’ve been involved with it for so long, it felt like the natural next step to direct.”

“There’ll be no recasting, except for the fact that Rusty will now be grown up,” said Daley. “We don’t know who will be playing him, but we intend to have a part for Clark Griswold. Chevy, we’re hoping he’ll be down to come back — and Beverly D’Angelo as well.”

Chase had previously said that he had no interest in doing a “Vacation” movie in which he and D’Angelo weren’t the main stars.
