Chris Pine won’t be back as Jack Ryan

Nearly a year ago, Paramount’s [most recent] attempt to reboot the Jack Ryan franchise, “Jack Ryan : Shadow Recruit”, danced out of the starting gate like a legless drunk. Neither a commercial or critical success, the “Hunt for Red October” prequel marked Chris Pine’s first stint as the literary hero from Tom Clancy’s novels – and by the sounds, it’s also to be his last.

While promoting his latest film “Into the Woods”, Pine told MovieFone that he doubts he’ll be reprising the role.

I don’t think it made enough money for that to happen. That’s one of my deep regrets, that we didn’t totally get that right. It’s a great franchise and if it’s not me then I hope it gets a fifth life at this point. It’s just great. I love the spy genre. I hope it’s done again and with a great story.

No doubt Ryan will return in cinematic form at some stage, but let’s skip the whole prequel-origin tale route and see what older Jack is up to these days, hey?
