Clints Bits – 9/7/04

I see that there’s a rumour going about that “The Crow: Wicked Prayer” is getting a small-screen release on August 5th (happy birthday dude – here’s a freaky bird). Talking to a studio source yesterday and they said that’s impossible, the film isn’t even finished yet. They’re putting the finishing touches to it and that probably won’t be complete until the end of August. So there’s going to be a lit bit longer of a wait to see Eddie Furlong raid the make-up cupboard – Unless of course, you’ve seen the home movie?

  • ‘Trainspotting’ actor Ewan Bremner was on the UK’s ‘This Morning’ programme promoting his role as a bumbling Detective in Jackie Chan’s latest ‘Around The World in 80 Days’. He was asked about his upcoming appearance in “Alien Vs Predator” and whether he has an alien burst out of his chest or hugs his face. Bremner hesitates, sneers and replies simply "I am food."

  • Mena Suvari has signed on to star opposite Jennifer Aniston in an untitled Ted Griffin project. Suvari will star as Annie, the younger sister of Aniston’s character, whose wedding brings all the characters together in the film.

  • After such a positive reaction to his guest-stint on TV’s “Las Vegas”, action-maestro Jean Claude Van Damme is in talks to star in his own weekly television series.

  • Jonathan Liebesman will direct the thriller “Mile Zero” for Phoenix Pictures. Described as in the same vein as “The Thing”, the film follows a young woman’s efforts to clear her father’s name in a series of murders at a remote Alaskan oil rig. She takes a job at the station hoping to prove that the station is haunted.

  • SneakPeek.CA says that the Turner Network Television (TNT) are promoting their 3-day premiere of "Evil Knievel ", filmed last spring throughout locations in Ontario, in a live one-hour special in which ‘Kaptain’ Robbie Knievel, son of the daredevil motorcyclist, will attempt a spectacular jump "in the Knievel tradition" on the deck of the US aircraft carrier, USS Intrepid, docked in New York Harbour. The special will air on TNT Saturday, July 31, at 8 p.m.

  • Eva Marie Saint will co-star in “Don’t Come Knocking”, an independent feature film being directed by Wim Wenders and starring Sam Shepard. The story centers on an aging cowboy star (Shepard) who rides off the set midshoot on a voyage of self-discovery. Saint will play Shepard’s mother.

  • Bloody Disgusting says “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash” is still on – despite the recent rumour that it had indeed been canned.

  • SneakPeek.CA says Terry Gilliam will direct "Tideland", about an orphaned 10-year old Saskatchewan girl who lives in a fantasy world.

  • IMAX will be showing “Spider-Man 2” onto their bigger-than-Ben Hur screens from July 23rd.

  • The first official stills from “The Pink Panther” starring Steve Martin Kevin Kline, Beyoncé Knowles and Jean Reno are up here.

  • "Erin Brockovich" writer Susannah Grant will adapt the Kate Saunders novel “Bachelor Boys” for Fox 2000. The film revolves around a London editor who was saved from her emotionally distant family by the close-knit clan next door. Her surrogate mom is dying and makes the woman promise to marry off her sons.

  • Broadway director Michael Mayer has signed on to direct the feature “Under My Skin”, starring Annette Bening as an uninhibited divorcee. Originally written as a play by Catherine Butterfield, the United Artists project is set in the 1960s and follows the relationship between a young conservative girl and her next-door neighbour (Bening).

  • Paramount have a cool new “Manchurian Candidate” game that you can download to your cellphone online.

  • "Troy" writer David Benioff has set up his second producing project at Warner Bros., making a deal for “Kashmir”. The Dan Weiss-scripted action drama centers on three ex-soldiers who get a hot tip and embark on a hunt for the world’s most wanted man – a terrorist with a $50 million bounty on his head. Benioff is about to complete writing his adaptation of the Ernest Hemingway novel “For Whom the Bell Tolls” for Warner Bros.. His next scripted feature is New Regency’s “Stay”, a Marc Forster-directed drama Fox will release this fall.

  • Director Bob Clark [“Baby Geniuses 2”] has signed on to direct the action comedy "Beat The Clock", described as a cross between "A Fish Called Wanda" and "Analyze This", says SneakPeek.CA. The UK co-production is slated to film in Canada later this year.

  • According to Dark Horizons, TV’s Entertainment Tonight has confirmed that Jessica Simpson has been chosen to play Daisy Duke in “The Dukes of Hazzard” movie.

  • Former NFL players Brian Bosworth, Michael Irvin and Bill Romanowski have signed on for parts in Paramount/Sony’s remake of “The Longest Yard”, starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, James Cromwell and Burt Reynolds.

  • Alison Lohman will star opposite Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth in Atom Egoyan’s “Where the Truth Lies”.

  • Jimmy Fallon will star opposite Drew Barrymore in Fox Searchlight’s remake of the English comedy “Fever Pitch”.

  • Aint it Cool has some pictures up from “Serenity”, Joss Whedon’s “Firefly” flick.
