Clint’s Bits – May 22nd, 2009

I’m busier than a Comic-Con attending deep-pocketed albino acne-spruiker, so let’s just get to it…

– Though Laura Leighton’s Sydney Andrews will play a vital part in the new “Melrose Place” reboot, don’t expect her to appear in every episode. Michael Ausiello reveals why! Ooooooooh… (Spoiler alert)

– Chris Diamantopoulos (TVs “The Starter Wife”) has been tapped to play the series regular role of Rob Weiss, the argumentative and tough new Chief of Staff to President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones) on the next season of “24”. Guess that means Bob Gunton’s headed back to the unemployment office. (Michael Ausiello)

– Universal Studios has crafted the “Creature From The Black Lagoon – A Raging Rockin’ Show”! ”The hip, musical stage adaptation of the Universal horror classic movie boasts an all-original score, acrobatic choreography and dazzling Broadway-level production values thanks to an award-winning theatrical production team” – or so we’re told. Let us know what it’s like folks!. In addition, King Kong is back with a vengeance. In summer 2010, Universal Studios Hollywood will debut a fierce, new 4-D multi-sensory attraction on the newly upgraded, famous Studio Tour. Says the press release, “The completely re-imagined King Kong attraction will invite guests to don special glasses as they enter a darkened soundstage aboard the Studio Tour trams and will be transported via the magic of Surround Digital 3D projection deep into the dark heart of the world of Skull Island. Guests will be involved in a showdown between two colossal predators, getting a front-row seat to all the thrills and scares that fans of King Kong have come to know and love.”

– Roadside Attractions has acquired all U.S. rights to Mitchell Lichtenstein’s family comedy, “Happy Tears”, with an all star cast including Parker Posey, Demi Moore, Ellen Barkin and Rip Torn.  (One unbelievable thing about this flick – they’re trying to convince us that Rip Torn fathered Demi Moore and Parker Posey! C’Mon!)

– The trailer for “Bruno” has premiered exclusively at MTV, whilst MySpace has the trailer for Bruce Willis’s newie “The Surrogates” up. Both look OK (not very trusting of Mostow anymore).

– Jeff Nathanson (“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”) may pen script for Summit’s “Houdini” movie. Expect the worst. (IGN Movies)

– Claire Forlani is said to be joining the cast of writer-director Michael Z. Wechsler’s thriller “The Red Robin”. Jeremy Sisto and Jane Alexander are already onboard.

– “Terminator” fans showed their support for the franchise with $3 million at the box office for Thursday midnight screenings of “Terminator Salvation” in an early start to what should be a robust Memorial Day weekend. Meanwhile, the bad reviews are said to be worth about, er, $2 million to the studio. (Variety)

– Warner Bros looks set to takeover Midway Games, which owns the “Mortal Kombat” franchise. If it does, that could be good news for director ‘Mink’ whose been trying to get a “Mortal Kombat” reboot off the ground for a couple of years now. Fingers will be crossed for you buddy. GAME ON! (Variety)

– Paramount has released the first pic from M.Night Shyamalan’s next (piece of shit.. sorry, did I just say that aloud!?) film, “The Last Airbender”. (USA Today)

– With the next season moving to Fridays at 8pm, it’d seem “Smallville” is about to enter its last year (or we can hope, anyway) – one in which Chloe will hopefully meet her maker! (Variety)

Check out this hilarious Funny-or-Die video featuring “Twilight” star Cam Gigandet. I shouldn’t smile, but I can’t help it..

– Connie Britton (“Friday Night Lights”) will star as Nancy’s mother in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” remake, according to Variety. Yeah, Ok… I can see that.

– Lyndsy Fonseca (“Big Love”) has booked a part in United Artists’ time-travel comedy “Hot Tub Time Machine,” now shooting in Vancouver. Fonseca will play Jenny, the girlfriend that slipped away from John Cusack’s character in 1987 whom he revisits when he and some friends accidentally travel back in time via their Jacuzzi. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– Shiloh Fernandez (TVs “Jericho”) and Dave Franco (James’s brother) have joined the cast of the new Rumer Willis/Brittany Snow movie, “Walks”.

– Wendie Malick (TVs “Just Shoot Me”), David Cross (TVs “Arrested Development”), and performer Charice Pempengco are just some of the ‘human’ co-stars of the upcoming ”Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”.

– Young British actress Lucy Gordon (“Spider-Man 3”) was found dead in her Paris apartment Wednesday, just two days before her 29th birthday, French police confirmed Thursday. Sad stuff right there. (The Hollywood Reporter)
