Comic Shadowman coming to the big screen!

Valiant comic “Shadowman” looks like it will someday hit the silver screen as a live-action feature, according to Deadline.com.

Sean Daniel (“The Mummy”) and Valiant Entertainment have teamed up with scriptwriter J. Michael Straczynski to develop an adaptation for the comic.

Straczynski has worked as both a writer and producer for TV shows including “Babylon 5” and “Jeremiah”, and has scripted films such as “Thor”, “Underworld: Awakening” and “Changeling”.

“Shadowman” tells the story of Jack Boniface; sworn to defend New Orleans against an army of unspeakable monstrosities from beyond the night. He learn to master his new abilities and pay the ultimate price before Master Darque brings down the wall separating reality and the horrors of the Deadside. The comic has sold millions of copies and has spawned two multi-platform video games.

“ ‘Shadowman’ is a character who lives in a unique world that mixes the moder world with that which is most ancient within us. The New Orleans vibe and history, and the struggle to find a balance with the personality within him, is a perfect dramatic vehicle. We’ve already finished the outline and there’s a lot of action, much of it unique to what Shadowman can do, but at the core of it, there’s a strong character, world and mythology that can be explored across multiple subsequent films, This is gonna be fun,” said Straczynski.

Jason Kothari, Dinesh Shamdasani, Sean Daniel and Jason Brown will produce, with Straczynski signed on as executive producer.

The movie announcement comes as Valiant prepares to launch a new “Shadowman” comic book series that has been helmed by Patrick Zircher (“Thor”, “Captain America” and Justin Jordan (“Strange Talent of Luther Strode”).

“ ‘Shadowman’ is the first in a large slate of film projects we are developing and funding internally at Valiant. Between Sean’s evidenced track record and Joe’s creative genius, we are very enthused about building a potential franchise here,” said Valiant CEO Jason Kothari.
