Cool look at Megan Gale’s Wonder Woman in abandoned Justice League film

While he untangles some red tape trying to prevent the film from happening, the director of an upcoming documentary on George Miller’s ill-fated “Justice League Mortal” has shared some cool snaps from the abandoned superhero film. Amongst the photos posted on Ryan Unicomb’s instagram, a look at Megan Gale as Wonder Woman and Armie Hammer’s Batman.

“For now these are all I can share”, says Unicomb. “I know there’s MASSIVE interest in the story behind #JusticeLeagueMortal but there is pushback from the studio and most of the creatives involved. It’s understandably a sore point for many involved. We’re collating everything we have to be able to pitch it properly. It may require a kickstarter or something at some stage, or it may not. I’m 5 years into the journey of getting this made and I VERY much appreciate your patience. I know how important this lost chapter is to us all; as movie goers, as comic readers, as pop culture fans. Rest assured we WANT to be able to show you EVERY costume properly. We WANT to show you the Batmobile. We WANT to show you the Fortress of Solitude. We WANT the artists who worked tirelessly for months to get their well deserved due. We’ll continue to do our best.”

Director Ryan Unicomb, producers Aaron Cater and Steven Caldwell and writer/author Maria Lewis are putting together the documentary, which “will reportedly be an unbiased account of the superhero ensemble project’s gestation, development and ultimate disintegration.”

“Justice League : Mortal” was set to shoot in Australia in 2008, with a mostly no-name cast (Armie Hammer, D.J Cotrona, Megan Gale, Common, Adam Brody, Teresa Palmer) playing some of DC’s most famous superheroes, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. Jay Baruchel would’ve been the villain, and Hugh Keays-Byrne (who would later be hired for “Mad Max : Fury Road”) would’ve been Martian Manhunter.

Before PM Kevin Rudd and a writer’s strike paved the way for it’s cancellation, George Miller’s “Justice League Mortal” planned to fill the void of DC’s then-empty cinematic universe.

The movie was cancelled because the Australian government ended up denying the movie a much-needed tax credit, resulting in a budget that was unattainable.
