Creed 2 could be a prequel featuring Apollo!

With the critical and commercial success of the film, no surprise to hear MGM and the creative-band behind the film are gearing up to do another “Creed”.

Sylvester Stallone, a shoe-in for an Oscar nom for his performance in the film, tells Variety that he’s already been kicking around ideas with director Ryan Coogler. One of those ideas, reveals the 69-year-old actor, is a prequel that’ll reunite Rocky with the late Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers in the earlier films).

“Ryan has some ideas of going forward and backward and actually seeing Rocky and Apollo together. Think of ‘The Godfather 2.’ That’s what he was thinking of, which was kind of ambitious.”

Michael B.Jordan, who plays Adonis Creed in “Creed”, has the same thought as the rest of us : Um, how the heck could they even work?

“So it’s going to be a CGI-version of Sly? I’m trying to think about it. Knowing Ryan, he’ll find a clever way to make that work.”

Stallone says that the other idea is to do a more straight-forward sequel, with Adonis possibly taking on a towering ferocious opponent – like an Ivan Drago type – while trying to keep partner Bianca – who wants to get out and experience the world before her hearing goes – happy.

While Stallone and Jordan are definite to return, the former wonders whether Coogler would even have time to be involved in a sequel – what with his commitment to Marvel’s “Black Panther”.

“I know Ryan is probably going to be gone for a couple years. So there will be a quandary on: Do we work with another director and have Ryan produce, or do we wait? There’s a diminishing time acceptance of a sequel. Now they are cranking them out in a year.”
