Damon, Brody, Sinise & Kim for Star Trek?

In the new film from director J.J Abrams

Matt Damon has been linked to the new “Star Trek” prequel movie longer than Billy Zane’s been bald – but as far as everyone knew, it was just piss and wind, right?

Today, IGN Movies reports that Damon is indeed in talks to play the Starfleet Academy Student awarded most-likely-to-engage-in-strange-pauses. In other words, Damon’s peeps have been playing gatekeeper-to-the-rumour-mill. I mean, you can’t blame them – he’s going to get enough flack for taking on such an iconic role – it’s Captain Kirk, for Christ’s sake! – as it is, why leak it early?

Now that J.J Abrams is officially onboard to direct the movie, it seems they’ve moved into the casting phase big time.

In addition to Damon being fitted for a Starfleet jumpsuit, Adrien Brody (“Hollywoodland”), Gary Sinise (“Apollo 13”) and Daniel Dae Kim (TVs “Lost”) are also believed to be talking to Abrams about roles in the highly anticipated sci-fi prequel.

Brody is being eyeballed for the role of Mr.Spock, the role made famous by Leonard Nimoy, whilst Sinise is believed to be in talks about playing Dr. McCoy, Enterprise’s physician.

Kim, who currently works with Abrams on TVs “Lost”, is an early candidate for the role of Sulu, a role previously played by George Takei. Though he’s being eyed for the role, he isn’t necessarily in talks yet.

The site was also able to confirm that rumours linking James McAvoy (“The Last King of Scotland”) to the role of Scotty are spot on.
