Darren Aronofsky may direct Wolverine 2

…. according to Deadline.

Yes, yes I know what you’re thinking ‘Why the heck would Darren Aronofsky want to sequelize that piss-poor Wolverine movie!?’ Two words : Hugh. Jackman.

You see, Jackman helped Aronofsky out when he was in need. “The Fountain” had fallen apart. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett had left the production. Aronofsky, hellbent on getting the oddly brilliant science-fiction film up, needed an A-lister to replace Pitt. if he couldn’t get one, and in a certain time period, then it’s likely “The Fountain” would’ve been aol’ed over to development hell. Enter Jackman who, despite being doused in offers at the time, opted to step in and help save the film.

As a consequence of their coming together on “The Fountain”, Aronofsky and Jackman have a great relationship so it’s not at all surprising that the talented director of such films as “Black Swan” and “The Wrestler” would consider directing the muscly Aussie in his new superhero movie. I’d think so long as Fox let Aronofsky make ‘his movie’ and he’s paid reasonably well for his services, it’s not something he’d be opposed to. As I said, after all, he owes Jackman one.

More so, Aronofsky seems interested in doing a superhero movie. He was attached to direct Warner Bros’ “Batman Year One” a few years shy of Christopher Nolan’s appointment to the franchise and more recently was in talks with the studio to helm their “Superman” reboot.

Chances are the deal is gonna be made.

The “Wolverine” sequel will squarely focus on the samurai storyline originated in the comic series.

Jackman told MTV that he’s got a woody for the Japanese storyline. “I’m a big fan of the Japanese saga [as seen] in the comic book … I love the idea of this anarchic character “the outsider” being in this world. I can see it aesthetically, too, full of honor and tradition and customs, and someone who’s really anti all of that, trying to negotiate his way”.

Roger Friedman is said to be looking forward to reviewing the movie… on his PC.
