Darth Vader returns for Rogue One!

The baddest baddie on the “Star Wars” block looks set to make a surprising return to the movie universe.

Darth Vader, the mainly-machine leftovers of charcoaled Jedi Anakin Skywalker, will be back on deck for “Star Wars Anthology : Rogue One”, says Birth.Movies.Death.

That film, a standalone film that exists outside of the new “Star Wars” trilogy, is set before the events of the first “Star Wars” film, “A New Hope”. In it, a group of resistance fighters hatch a plan to steal the plans to Vader’s legendary planet destroyer, The Death Star.

It remains to be seen just how much of Vader (who, we assume, will be voiced again by series staple James Earl Jones. Right?) will be seen in the film but as it’s his vessel the film’s heroes will likely be sneaking aboard, it could be quite a bit.

“Rogue One”, due out next year, stars Aussie Ben Mendelsohn, Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Sam Claflin and Diego Luna, and is directed by Gareth Edwards (“Godzilla”).

This will be the first of several new “Star Wars Anthology” movies, the next – which Chris Lord and Phil Miller have just been announced as directing – will fix on a young Han Solo.
