David Goyer and NBC bringing Constantine to TV

It appears that Marvel isn’t the only ones looking to further expand into the T.V. market.

With the premiere this week of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” to a whopping 11.9 million viewers and news that the 1940’s set “Agent Carter” is in active development, it’s becoming more and more of a paradise for the geekiest of us – but DC Comics have decide to fire back as well with two new announcements this week alone…

Following the details being released for “Gotham” on FOX which will focus on a Pre-Batman Jim Gordon in a “Year One” sort-of way, and the already in development “The Flash” coming to The CW comes fresh news today that DC & Warner Bros. TV have sold a Pilot to NBC for “Constantine”, with Daniel Cerone (“The Mentalist”) & David S. Goyer (“Man of Steel”) Writing & Executive Producing.

The character of John Constantine was originally created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette & John Totleben during Moore’s iconic run on “Swamp Thing” – the English Magician / Con Man / Occult Investigator subsequently achieved massive popularity in his own series “Hellblazer”, which was the longest running series for DC’s “Vertigo” imprint, spanning 300 issues between 1988 & 2013, before being transferred into “Justice League Dark” (also in development with Guillermo Del Toro) as part of DC’s “The New 52” launch, and newly launched monthly series – funnily enough labelled “Constantine”. As one of my favourite character sin the DC Universe, I’d personally love to see someone like John Simm (“Life On Mars”) or Rhys Ifans (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) take on the part, but I’m already seeing lots of Paul Bettany talk – as long as it isn’t Keanu Reeves again, I’ll be happy….

So that’s “Arrow”, “The Flash”, “Constantine”, “S.H.I.E.L.D.”, “Agent Carter” & “Gotham” all either here or coming our way – like I said at the top – it’s nirvana for the fans….
