David Tennant replacing Robin Williams in Chew

David Tennant has joined Steven Yeun and Felicia Day in the voice cast of animated comic-adaptation “Chew”.

The animation centers on a detective (Yeun) who is a “cibopath” – a person who gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats – and is set in a world where bird meats are illegal after bird flu killed millions of Americans.

Tennant will play the detective’s mentor-turned-villain, Mason Savoy. Robin Williams was originally meant to voice the character.

Day play’s the detective’s love interest, a food critic who can write about food so precisely the reader actually feels like they are tasting it.

Yeun and Day have already recorded their parts. Production then stalled due to Williams’ death, however Tennant is now working on his part.

Jeff Krelitz is directing and producing with David Boxenbaum.

THR first reported the news.
