David Thewlis to star in dark comedy from producer Stephen Fry

Award winning actor and writer David Thewlis (THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING, HARRY POTTER Series) is set to star in the dark comedy CROAK, to be directed by Kevin Thomas (SUNDAY ROAST) from Thewlis’ script.  The British heist film also stars Academy Award nominee Juliette Lewis (AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY), Emmy Award nominated Zoe Kazan (RUBY SPARKS, OLIVE KITTRIDGE), Julia Garner (GRANDMA) and Craig Roberts (SUBMARINE, 22 JUMP STREET), announced the film’s producers (Stephen Fry, Robert Taylor, Kevin Thomas, Philippa Thomas).

13 Films is handling international rights to the project and will introduce the film to buyers in Berlin. UTA is arranging financing for the film and handling the U.S. rights.

Currently in pre-production, CROAK also stars Ken Stott (THE HOBBIT, Upcoming BILLY LYNN’S LONG HALFTIME WALK) and Shirley Henderson (TRAINSPOTTING, TALE OF TALES).

CROAK is a Sprout Pictures, Thomas Thomas Films and The Development Partnership production set to start principal photography in July 2016.

Based on the short film SUNDAY ROAST, which was screened at the London Film Festival 2015 to great critical acclaim, the film is a darkly comedic look at the ludicrous quirks of the film industry, which are thrown into sharp relief when a young actor meets a twisted mortician.

Philippa Thomas of Thomas Thomas Films said “Thomas Thomas are delighted to be announcing CROAK. David’s script is just brilliant and I can’t wait to see how Kevin and this wonderful cast bring it to life”.

“This is a supremely funny script with an all-star comedy cast to bring it to life,” said Tannaz Anisi, President of 13 Films. “The amazing actor and writer, David Thewlis is joined by some of the best of both British and US talent to produce, direct and star in this adventure to bring his hilarious story to the big screen.”
