Def Leppard’s songs join Rock of Ages movie

Those who have either seen the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” or listened to the cast recording noted that each starts out with a recorded introduction from Whitesnake singer David Coverdale asking the audience to “Please refrain from singing Def Leppard’s Pyromania, as we could not get the rights to any of their music”.

Well it seems like things have changed for the big screen adaption currently filming in Fort Lauderdale.

In a recent interview with the Broward/Palm Beach New Times promoting their summer tour with Heart, Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen confirmed that the film will incorporate music from the legendary British rockers:

They’re actually filming a movie adaptation of Rock of Ages in Florida right now. How do you guys feel about how far that property has gone?

I think it’s great because we’re getting a bunch of our songs in the movie. That’s really cool. It was great. It was campy, kitschy, and fun. It was a very cool production of it. We were actually groomed to be a part of it; it’s based on one of our songs. Kind of cool.

Collen did not mention which Def Leppard classics would be in the film but it is obvious that “Rock of Ages” will be. Other Leppard classics worth consideration would have to be 80’s staples “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Photograph”.

Does this mean that the film adaption will include other classics not included in the Broadway show? Looks like it! Maybe Guns N Roses’ “Sweet Child of Mine” will appear as well. One thing is for sure, this movie is gonna be BIG! Big cast (Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, etc.), big hits (Don’t Stop Believing, Sister Christian, Nothing but a Good Time, Here I Go Again) and of course….BIG HAIR!!!

The Adam Shankman directed mega-musical will be unleashing its majestic rock on the world next summer!
