Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead”) is directing Universal’s live action adaptation of the Electronic Arts video game. ”The protagonist, Dante Aligheri is a knight who with the help of the poet Virgil ventures into the nine rings of hell to rescue his beloved Beatrice. In the process, he becomes an unwitting pawn in an ancient war between heaven and hell. Rights to the video game were won by Universal several years ago in a bidding battle. Brad Peyton (“Journey 2 : The Mysterious Island”) will direct Blumhouse’s follow-up to “Insidious Chapter Two”. Aaron Eckhart is signed to star as “an unconventional exorcist who can tap into the subconscious of the possessed meets his match when a 9-year-old boy is possessed by a demon from his past.” (Deadline)

“Men in Black 3″ writer Etan Coen will direct the Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy. The film, which Ferrell is producing, ”centers on an investment banker who, after being wrongly sentenced to prison, asks the guy who washes his car to help him prepare to do hard time.” (The Hollywood Reporter)

40 Days of Dating

Michael Sucsy (“The Vow”) will direct the feature adaptation of an online blog called “40 Days Of Dating”, by Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman, which involves two friends dating each other over 40 days, and chronicling the results with essays and filmed vignettes. Lorene Scafaria wrote the script. (Deadline)

Paul Greengrass has left the film. The picture has a troubled history; it was first put on pause when Universal dropped out, and Greengrass instead went on to direct the Tom Hanks vehicle “Captain Phillips”. (Deadline)
