Disney working on Jungle Book 2!

While the film is yet to bow in the US and has only just been released here in Oz, Disney is reportedly already developing a sequel to Jon Favreau’s “The Jungle Book”.

According to THR, director Favreau and writer Justin Marks are in negotiations to return in their roles for a follow-up movie, with Favreau also producing with Brigham Taylor.

Clearly, the $31.7 million made by the film so far has satisfied the Disney heads! The film is also expected to nab the top spot at the North American box office when it opens on Friday.

“The Jungle Book”, which was shot entirely on stages in LA using a live-action/CG hybrid, is of course based on Rudyard Kipling’s story about Mowgli, the human boy raised by wolves in the jungle.

Disney’s adaptation features a voice cast that includes Bill Murray as Baloo the bear, Ben Kingsley as Begheera the panther, Scarlet Johansson as Kaa the serpent and Lupita Nyong’o as Raksha the mother wolf, among others. Neel Sethi stars as Mowgli.

“The Jungle Book” opens on Friday in North America, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K., China, Brazil and Mexico.
