14 years later, Tommy Wiseau’s The Room gets wide theatrical release

Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room”, affectionately regarded ‘the worst movie ever made’, is getting a wide theatrical release – 14 years after it opened in just two theaters in LA.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film – thanks to the success of James Franco’s Wiseau-bio “The Disaster Artist” – will receive a 600-theater release on January 10.

The film will be distributed by Fathom who have been allocated the 8 pm local time session for the release. Before “The Room”, attendees will get a sneak peek at Wiseau’s latest film, “Best Friends”.

“It’s really great because it’s going to tackle the other areas where people aren’t aware of the room still,” Wiseau tells the trade, adding that a screening is also set at the Hollywood Bowl for the 15th anniversary of the movie next June.

“I’ve never called it a cult phenomenon, or whatever they call it,” adds Wiseau. “I call it a free expression, that’s what The Room represents. I encourage people to express themselves in the screenings. A ton of people ask me, ‘Why do you encourage that?’ I say, ‘Why not?’ What I wanted was to give them a smile and it’s their choice if they want to express themselves.”

Tickets for the Jan 10 screening of “The Room” can be purchased here.
