Eddie Redmayne to star in The Last Days of Night

Eddie Redmayne is set to star in “The Last Days Of Night”, from director Morten Tyldum and screenwriter Graham Moore.

Redmayne will play lawyer Paul Cravath in the film about the legal battle between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to determine who invented electric light.

The film is based on Moore’s book, which is described as:

New York, 1888. The miracle of electric light is in its infancy, and a young untested lawyer named Paul Cravath, fresh out of Columbia Law School, takes a case that seems impossible to win. Paul’s client, George Westinghouse, has been sued by Thomas Edison over a billion-dollar question: Who invented the light bulb and holds the right to power the country?

The Black Bear Pictures film is being produced by Nora Grossman, Ido Ostrowsky and Schwarzman. It will likely release in the fall of 2017.

Black Bear and Moore teamed up to adapt Moore’s “The Imitation Game” for the screen in 2014. Interestingly, the star of that film, Benedict Cumberbatch, is now attached to a rival project of “The Last Days Of Night” – Cumberbatch is on board to play Thomas Edison in The Weinstein Company’s version of the historical story, “The Current War”.
