Eisner may direct Vin Diesel’s Witch Hunter

Vin Diesel and Breck Eisner look to team up on “The Witch Hunter” – which, it seems, has nothing to do with the legendary Hollywood blacklisting of the brown-coat era, but may encompass just as much action.

Deadline says the flick, based on a black list script (different ‘black list’) by Cory Goodman, tells of “an immortal witch hunter who partners with his natural enemy, a female witch, to stop the covens of New York City from unleashing a plague on humanity. Summit is out to Diesel to play the Witch Hunter.”

Assumingly this would be Diesel’s first “Riddick” gig, though there’s been some speculative talk in recent weeks that he might do the new “xXx” or his long-awaited “Hannibal the Conqueror” film next. Depends which flick gets it’s ducks in a row first, I guess. This one has Summit Entertainment and Emmett/Furla Films bringing the bucks, so it’s likely already ready-to-shoot.

I like Breck Eisner’s stuff. His “Sahara”, though somewhat of a diet “Indiana Jones”, was a fun effort, and “The Crazies”, though it didn’t do much, was one of the better, more creative horror flicks in recent times. I’d have been interested to see what he’d have done with New Line’s long-in-the-works “Escape from New York” remake, but he skipped out on it at the 11th hour (and by all accounts the project is dead anyway; probably a good thing, Kurt Russell is Snake Plissken. No replacing him).

Diesel next appears in the likely-to-smash “Fast & Furious 6”.
