Eli Roth has a film to Cell you

Making a film from Stephen King’s book

I’d heard whispers, rumblings and anything else beginning with “don’t reveal yet” regarding this, but finally something concrete. Variety has just let the moggie out of the bag : Eli Roth will direct the film version of Stephen King’s book “Cell”.

Now how cool is that? The film versions of King’s books, the most recent ones anyway, have been absolutely dire. I’m not talking about your “Shawshank” and “Green Mile”; I’m talking about the signature-style horror yarns that King’s sold the rights to. With Roth on board – whose “Hostel” is the probably the freakiest thing you’ll see this year, not to mention the most welcomingly perverted – this might just be the best King film since, well, “Pet Sematary”?

In the book, a pulse is sent out through cell phones around the world and turns every phone user into a crazed, murderous zombie. Think “Maximum Overdrive”, only cooler, and more ‘Apocalyptic’.

Roth, who will first direct a “Hostel” sequel, also wants to write or co-write the film, depending of course on his schedule.
