1, 2… Freddy’s coming back for you!

Not content with letting a good milkable property lay dormant, New Line are prepping Freddy Krueger for his big screen return.

A second “Nightmare on Elm Street” reboot had been in the works – with “Aquaman” co-writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick hired to pen the screenplay in 2015 – for a couple of years but there’s been little to no noise on the project in quite some time. Now an update from the writer himself, suggesting the project is still very much happening – just not fast.

Johnson-McGoldrick spoke with GameSpot who stated : “It’s still happening. Nothing is percolating just yet. The Conjuring universe is sort of first and foremost on [New Line Cinema’s] horror burner. Everybody wants to see Freddy again I think, so I think it’s inevitable at some point.”

While the idea of Robert Englund reprising his role as Freddy is often floated by fans, all signs point to the new version being another take on the Wes Craven classic with a new actor behind the mask.

Meanwhile, check out our own interview with Johnson-McGoldrick, who comments on some of the cut cameos from his latest venture, “Aquaman”.
