Elton John has teamed up with David Furnish and “True Blood” creator Alan Ball to develop a period drama about musical prodigies. Now that show, titled “Virtuso”, has been picked up by HBO.
With the pilot receiving the go-ahead, production is set to get underway in Budapest in the US spring.
The story follows a class of musicians from the Academy of Musical Excellence in 18th century Vienna.
Peter Macdissi will star in the pilot opposite Alex Lawther, Francois Civil, Nico Mirallegro, Lindsay Farris and Iva Babic.
Macdissi will also exec produce with Ball, John, Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw.
