Fifty Shades sequel is for closers

Veteran filmmaker James Foley looks to take over from Sam Taylor-Johnson – no surprise to learn she’s not up for seconds; the film would’ve been a headache to work on – on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” sequel.

Part two in the series is, of course (sheesh, totally just outed myself as a devoted reader of the series by adding ‘of course’, didn’t It?), “Fifty Shades Darker” – a continuation that finds Christian and Anastasia rekindling their relationship following her abrupt exit at the end of film one. Ana quickly learns that her beau has bought out her company, which ultimately turns out to be a good thing when her employer turns out to be a randid scumbag.

The Wraps says Foley (“Glengarry Glen Ross”, TV’s “House of Cards”) is the only one in contention for the gig at the moment. In recent times, several other filmmakers – including an unspecified female – were said to be under consideration. Not surprisingly, the producers – including Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca – jumped at the biggest name of the bunch.

If even so they don’t lose the actors between the sequels (as they already have a director), there’s talk that both “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed” could be, like those never-ending “Matrix” sequels, should back-to-back. Foley would, assumingly, take the reigns on both films if his schedule allowed.

The films, out February 2017 and February 2018, respectively, will see Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dorman reprise their roles as.. well, those naughty lovebirds.
