Nathan Fillion, Margot Robbie and Amy Adams are being sought for a new prequel to classic “Wizard of Oz”.
RAMstar Studios “How the Wizard Came to Be” will tread similar ground to the one Sam Raimi’s “Oz : The Great & Powerful” traveled upon – – only it’ll start at the beginning of Oscar ‘Oz’ Diggs’ life.
“It takes you on a journey from the Wizard’s childhood, through all the challenges he faces along the way to becoming the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz,” Producer BJ Plott tells Flicksided. “This story brings insight into where all the characters in Oz originated.”
The producer has long wanted “Castle” and “Firefly” star Fillion for the main role.
“There are a lot of actors that would best suit the role. But for me, I feel Nathan is the best choice,” Plott said. “I love his show Castle. That character is similar to the wizard.”
Adams and Robbie have been approached to play the witches in the film.
Production is expected to begin in 2017 for a release in 2018.
