First serious Spider-Man contender emerges

Newcomer Mateus Ward (“Hostages”, “Murder in the First”) is championing to be the next Spider-Man, according to Bad Ass Digest.

The actor recently auditioned for the role – and at a home, rather than a casting studio – of the webslinger in the upcoming Sony/Marvel reboot.

Despite rumours the studio were considering going with Miles Morales over Peter Parker this time around, Ward’s skin-colur suggests they’re sticking with the staple for now.

Ward, 16, would play a high-school aged incarnation of the character. Word is he’ll be introduced – likely, briefly – in next year’s “Captain America : Civil War” before sashaying into his own film a year later.
