I’m really excited to see “Predators”. I remember reading the original script about, oh, five or six years ago and thinking how terrific a movie that’d be. Obviously the script has changed a lot since then – for one, ‘Dutch’ (Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character from “Predator”) is no longer the film’s hero, and some of the more extravagant action sequences have been reigned in a lot. But by-and-large, I hear it’s pretty much the same story, albeit truncated.
“Predators”, which opens worldwide next week, is tracking pretty damn well (which is good news for Fox who are eating crow this week after the bellyflop that “Knight and Day” did; not to mention last month’s “A-Team” movie) so it’s likely going to produce more cabbage than . And what that means, of course, is that Fox are going to want more “Predator” films.
At the film’s L.A junket today, Rodriguez said there’s definitely an idea or two being thrown about for a sequel – one of which would see the return of Schwarzenegger’s canon-armed character from the John McTiernan gem.
“Maybe in the sequel we can maybe ask him for a cameo”, Collider quotes Rodriguez as saying, adding that they decided not to ask Schwarzenegger to appear in “Predators” because “we had such an erratic schedule, we never would have been able to pinpoint like you would need to with somebody in his position” when his scenes would film.
And who might star in a potential “Predators” sequel?
“Just following Laurence Fishburne’s character (Noland) around in a prequel would be a great movie. Just the tales he tells in this movie alone, I want to see those experiences,” Rodriguez tells MovieWeb. “That’s why I wasn’t precious even about the original script I had,” Rodriguez continued. “Because once you come up with the idea of a Predator Planet, that Predators use as their hunting grounds and humans are involved somehow, the story ideas that you can come up with are so numerous that you can come up with any approach. So we already have several ideas that we can go with for a sequel. They would all be good ideas but we would probably put them together to see which one rises to the top, if we made another one”.
