Force Awakens : Box Office Cume, Original Title Revealed

Ah, the little film that could; quaint indie “Star Wars : The Force Awakens” has now earned over a billion dollars worldwide. The JJ Abrams directed blockbuster scored $153.5 million at the North American box office this weekend, resulting in an accumulative $544.6 million. Overseas, the film earned $133.3 million for a total of $546 million, resulting in that $1.09 billion figure worldwide. “Avatar” is no longer the king.

Speaking of “The Force Awakens”, no surprise to learn that that wasn’t always the title of the film. Early in it’s conception, the tentative title for the “Star Wars” sequel was “Shadow of the Empire”. Sound familiar? Yep, a title very similar to “Shadows of the Empire” – a novel that was set between the events of “Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”.
