Forster on Downslope, Di Novi helms Unforgettable

Marc Forster (“Monster’s Ball”, “World War Z”) will direct a a film based on Stanley Kubrick’s 1956 screenplay ”The Downslope”, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is proposed to be the first in a trilogy of films about the battle between Union General George Armstrong Custer and Confederate Colonel John Singleton Mosby at the time of the Civil War. “I am indebted to Stanley Kubrick and his visionary films. It is an honor and a huge responsibility to take on this project, and we’re thankful to his family for their support,” says Forster. “This is a powerful work, an epic story, with its psychological landscape of brother pitted against brother, and friend against friend. We believe it will be an incredibly interesting trilogy, and a great experience sharing our mutual passion of Kubrick’s vision.”

Producer Denise Di Novi (“Catwoman”, “Mad Max : Fury Road”) will make her directorial debut on “Unforgettable”, a female-centric thriller set at Warner Bros, says The Hollywood Reporter. The Christina Hodson/David Leslie Johnson-scripted film sees a woman struggling to start a new life with a new husband and his daughter but finds herself tormented by the man’s manipulative and mentally unstable ex-wife. “The fact that this transition is so clear in retrospect makes it no less exciting,” said Greg Silverman, Warners’ president creative development and worldwide production. “Denise has been a Warners filmmaker for decades, and we know she will have continued success as a director. The cast and crew of Unforgettable — and Denise’s home studio, Warner Bros. — are very lucky indeed.”
