Franchise Updates : Schwarzenegger in T5, Spotnitz optimistic about X-Files, Man of Steel cameo?

After “The Last Stand”‘s performance at the U.S Box office over the weekend, I’m not surprised that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be suddenly very keen to return to one of his sure-thing franchises, nevertheless the big guy’s confirmed he will indeed be a part of the next “Terminator” movie. Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis were recently hired to draft the script for the next film in the franchise, but it was unclear whether their script would feature the most, erm, famous ‘Terminator’. Seems it will.

Bleeding Cool reports :

our man Patrick Dane is down at the London junket for The Last Stand and he reports back, in short, that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be appearing in the next Terminator movie. Arnold said so himself.

The big man listed the film as being on his upcoming slate alongside Triplets and the next Conan picture.

Arnold was being linked to Terminator again back when Justin Lin was developing the next film, but we had no idea that he was involved in the current Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier version until now. I’m glad he is.

Meanwhile, as a follow-up to our own Sandi Hicks’ feature on the chances of a third “X-Files” movie coming to fruition anytime soon, EP Frank Spotnitz offered fans over on his blog a glimmer of hope (as well as offering up a kind link to the article, thanks Frank!).

Congratulations on the article, Sandi! I’m delighted to be a part of it. And I am feeling very optimistic about 2013…

Last but not least, CapedWonder.com‘s Jim Bowers (via Comic Book Movie) revealed on his Facebook that a classic ‘Superman’ star will be making a cameo in the new “Man of Steel” flick. Bowers won’t say who it is, but in addition to suggesting he himself had a hand in getting this person to do a cameo in Zack Snyder’s reboot, does say to ‘think outside the box’. So, guessing it’s not one of the main “Superman” movie stars – Margot Kidder, Marc McClure, Gene Hackman etc, but a supporting actor from the film/s, say Terrence Stamp? Sarah Douglas? Jack O’Hallaron, Ned Beatty? erm, … Mark Pillow!? Guess it’ll leak soon enough.
