From Mel to M. Night

Australia’s Bojana Novakovic, now one of Hollywood’s hottest young rising stars (She appeared briefly in Sam Raimi’s “Drag Me to Hell” and will soon be seen as Mel Gibson’s sprog in “Edge of Darkness”), has snagged herself another plum gig.

The beautiful star of such local productions as “Satisfaction”, “Solo” and “Marking Time” (Brilliant mini-series. If you’ve never seen it, hunt it down on DVD) has been cast in the M.Night Shyamalan-produced “Devil”, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The pic, directed by John Dowdle and produced by “The Sixth Sense” helmer, shoots in Toronto from October 24. Brian Nelson wrote the script.

Logan Marshall-Green, Jenny O’Hara, Jacob Vargas, Matt Craven, Chris Messina, Bokeem Woodbine, Geoffrey Arend and Caroline Dhavernas are also onboard.

The plot’s being kept under wraps, but sources say Chris Messina (“Julie & Julia”) plays the lead role of Bowden, a sobered-up homicide detective.

Universal will distribute “Devil,” the first project from Shyamalan’s three-picture deal with Media Rights Capital.
