G.I Joe back on Paramount’s dance card

Paramount are back in the “G.I Joe” game it seems, with the studio announcing Monday a release date for a new film based on the popular Hasbro brand.

The untitled “G.I Joe” film is locked for a March 27, 2010 release. The previous two “G.I Joe” films, 2009’s “G.I Joe : The Rise of Cobra” and “G.I Joe : Retaliation” (2013) starred Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson, respectively. No word if the new film is related but it had been reported previously that Johnson wouldn’t be returning to the series.

In addition to “G.I Joe”, Paramount has set an October 16, 2010 release for “Micronauts”, also based on a Hasbro property.

A couple of years ago reports surfaced that Paramount and Hasbro were looking at building a shared universe based on several Hasbro concepts, including “G.I Joe” and “Micronauts”, so it’s possible the two abovesaid films will be set in the same world.

Paramount also revealed release dates for a couple of other films today : A new “Dungeons & Dragons” movie, set for July 23, 2021, and “Transformers” spin-off Bumblebee, due out Dec. 21, 2018.
