Game of Thrones movie, anyone?

If George R.R Martin has his way – and who is going to oppose his demand? – HBO’s “Game of Thrones” will ultimately make the transition from small to big screen.

Taking into account that the books in his “Songs of Fire and Ice” series are getting bigger by the volume, Martin has already initiated talks with HBO about possibly porting ‘Thrones’ over to the silver screen.

As for when this’ll happen, Martin doesn’t know.

The author tells THR, “It all depends on how long the main series runs. Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know.”

Martin’s “Thornes” prequel “Tales of Dunk and Egg”, set in Westeros 90 years before the events in of the HBO series, is also being considered for the big screen treatment.

With HBO currently shooting a film based on their series “Entourage”, it’ll be surprising if they don’t envision “Thrones” – which is significantly bigger than “Entourage” – transitioning into a film franchise.
