Gavin Carlys for Casino Royale?

Take it with a streaming dollop of table salt for now, but according to Scottish site FerryAve.com, newcomer Gavin Carlys – a star of Scot soaps – has just been announced as the much-younger re-instated 007.

"I’ve always loved spy novels, especially those by [Ian] Fleming. Playing Bond is an utmost honor for me", says Carlys, whose credits include tube offerings "The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance".

The actor himself admits that he would’ve liked to have seen Clive Owen – the rumoured frontrunner – in the role, had it not been him. "I’m a big fan of Clive’s work, especially his portrayal of Dwight McCarthy in Sin City. [I’ve loved] the comic series forever. He’s a truly talented man. But, I suppose, I just got lucky," he said with a warm smile.

Moviehole checked in with an inside source in Britain to see whether there’s any truth to it.

"Interesting. Filming commences in January, with Martin Campbell on Directing duties. Screenwriters Purvis and Wade are expected to be rewritten by Richard Maybaum who penned the more grittier later Bonds as well as the story for Gibson’s ‘Ransom’. Writer Bruce Feirstein, (‘Golden Eye’, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’) currently on board The A-Team is rumoured to be on the cards too", he tells.

Wait for an official announcement before designing your fan-posters Bond buffs.
