Genius move, Lionsgate!

Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) has acquired the US rights to the feature film “Genius”, it was announced today by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger.

The film stars Academy Award-winner Colin Firth, Jude Law, Academy Award-winner Nicole Kidman and Laura Linney with Guy Pearce and Dominic West and is directed by renowned, Tony Award-winning theater director Michael Grandage. The screenplay was written by Tony Award-winner and three-time Academy Award-nominee John Logan based on the bookMax Perkins: Editor of a Genius by Pulitzer Prize-winning author A. Scott Berg. Producers are James Bierman, Grandage and Logan with Deepak Nayar, Nik Bower, James J. Bagley, Berg, Tim Bevan, Steve Christian, Ivan Dunleavy and Arielle Tepper Madover serving as executive producers. The film was financed by Riverstone Pictures and Pinewood Pictures.

“Genius” centers on the real-life relationship between literary giant Thomas Wolfe (Law) and renowned editor Max Perkins (Firth). Wolfe, a blazing talent with a larger-than-life personality and Perkins, one of the most respected literary editors of all time, formed a complex, transformative and irrepressible friendship that changed the lives of these brilliant but very different men forever.

Jason Constantine and Eda Kowan will oversee the project on behalf of Lionsgate.
