Monks on “The OC”, “36”, “Blonde Ambition” and more

Shana tova! A gut yohr! To my Cantonese friends; Kung hé fat tsoi! For my Dutch readers; Godt nytår! The French romantics among you; Bonne année! My Bollywood Hindi chums; Nav varsh ki subhkamna! To George Clooney; Felice anno nuovo buon anno! To Irish Dreamtime; ath bhliain faoi mhaise! To my friends at Sony, Akemashite omedetô! And to those who have absolutely no idea what’s being written here; Happy New Year! Clint, my master, I wish you, Tos and Louis health, happiness and success.

So, Monkeys and Monkettes, dedicated followers of Movie Hole (The Monkey can’t even get it right, it’s Moviehole – one word – sheesh 😉 – Ed), another year has snuck up. It’s 2007. Like, what the? Where and how did it come about so soon? There I was, living in London, with Princess for months on end and BAM! It’s time to move on out. Actually, I’m heading on back to London Town, with a Princess not too far behind in-tow in February. It’s my intention to catch a vine to Clooney-ville and whisk her away for a spot of rainy romance in a true St. Valentines spectacular. The holidays were great for both of us. I had a book printed for Princess detailing pretty much everything, everyone and everywhere she’s come in contact with the past year or so in snappy snap and text form. From stealing some café chairs to some morbid sight-seeing at Highgate Cemetary as well as Yule Tide fun, cat spying and meeting her beloved’s friends. I got a much-needed coat and a shaver. This monkey gets hairy. What I didn’t receive was a bunch of cash or a villainous male for a movie. I don’t think Jason Isaacs could fit in my stocking. A Snickers covered Isaacs would suit some, but not me. Princess, thank you for my gifts. That New Year’s hotel was ace, though some of my fur has worn away! I love you and will see you soon.

So, is 2007 a happy new year for movies so far? La La Land will be picking up in the next week or so and tongues are wagging already in the mouths of turkey filled talent agents, Execs and even nobodys.

Great news for me, as Clint reported, George Clooney and Robert De Niro are teaming up for ‘36’. If I could pitch for a class act to top line a film, this would be it. You guys could read a phone book on screen and make it entertaining. I just hope though that the script is penned by someone the prods gave good thought for. Zak, Jay, Stephen are the peeps you should be thinking about. Just my two cents.

If Kevin Smith is really the biggest Die Hard fan on the planet, then King B should have got him to tinker with the ‘Live Free or Die Hard’ script a tad. B looks a little like Butch Coolidge in the trailer I think.

So, now the ‘O.C’. has been chopped, is Benjamin McKenzie up for a “Die Hard” of some sorts? A possible TV spin-off? My ears are swinging all over the place and I’ve been jumping like my gibbon neighbour with pre-excitement if it’s true that he’s being earmarked for some unusual piece of work. I’m going to delve deeper, but I rate this guy, I really do.

Jessica Simpson, the “I’ve got another daughter in the car if she aint working for you” once possibly, remotely considered Lucy McClane star of surprise, well done to your agent for booking you for this small gem ‘Employee of the Month’ is on for ‘Blonde Ambition’. ‘A Working Girl’ esque tale which also houses Luke Wilson and Jamie Kennedy.

Lara Croft is to resurface? I’m hearing WB have shelled out millions upon millions for a stake in software company Eidos/SCI and that a third movie of the female Indy is in the works. Are the software giants ignoring the alledged Da Vinci Code-esque law suit which is also working its way to them? Three different countries, with three different coffee houses, talking about an apparently pending hush hush legal wrangle which could possibly halt a third movie. Sadly, there are yet more games-to-movies in the works.

Willem Dafoe is back with the great Paul Schrader in ‘Adam Resurrected’. The Holocaust pic which also has Jeff Goldbloom is penned by Noah Stollman from Yoram Kanuik’s novel about a Jewish Entertainer, spared the gas chamber, only to ‘cheer’ up those other poor souls making their way to the chambers. Schrader has directed and penned a few Willem Dafoe projects including ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’, ‘Light Sleeper’ and ‘The Walker’.

‘The Battle of Red Cliff’ is finally underway with John Woo regulars Tony Leung and Chow Yun Fat leading the way, joined by Andy Lau and Ken Watanabe. How cool will this movie be?

Ok, so who’s on the rise?
Tom Cruise, Emilio, Anne Hathaway, Justin Long (bizarrely), all of who Clint mentioned, Ben McKenzie. Transformers baby!, Sly, Eddie Murphy. Emilie De Ravin,

Standing still: Ben Stiller, Owen Willson.

On the decline: Brangelina.

Until the next one. The best of success to all.
