Dave Bautista has been cast to star opposite Jane Levy (EVIL DEAD) in the Brooklyn- set action thriller BUSHWICK, it was announced today by the filmmakers. Bautista is best known for his roles as Mr. Hinx in the upcoming James Bond film SPECTRE, and for playing Drax in last year’s hit GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.  Bautista, also known as a former WWE professional wrestler, will shoot GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 this coming February.

BUSHWICK will be directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott (COOTIES),  was written by Nick Damici (COLD IN JULY) and Graham Reznik, based upon a story by Murnion and Milott. It will be produced by Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films and Adam Folk of Bullet Pictures. The film is scheduled to go into production in New York this year, with WME Global co-repping U.S. sales with XYZ.

The film tells the story of twenty-year-old Lucy (Levy) and war veteran Stupe (Bautista). Texas is trying to secede from the U.S., and NYC is being used as a negotiation tool. Lucy meets Stupe after coming up from the subway into the military invasion of Brooklyn. Together they decide to cross the treacherous five blocks of Bushwick – littered with looters, local militias, the invading forces, and one crazy cousin – in order to get home and be reunited with Lucy’s grandmother.

“We are very excited to have such a talented and dynamic actor join BUSHWICK. Dave Bautista is perfect to breathe life into the action packed role,” said XYZ’s Bolotin.

Bautista is represented by Gersh, manager Jonathan Meisner and attorney Jay Rosenthal at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp.

XYZ Films is currently producing and handling sales for a number of titles including the international hostage thriller 6 DAYS, starring Jamie Bell, Mark Strong and Abbie Cornish, the action-thriller PILGRIMAGE starring Jon Bernthal, Richard Armitage and Tom Holland and I KILL GIANTS, which is directed by Anders Walter and produced by Chris Columbus, Treehouse Pictures, Man of Action Entertainment and XYZ.
