Guys and Dolls remake director Michael Grandage

20th Century Fox has been trying to get its “Guys And Dolls” remake off the ground for years, and now the studio is finally moving forward with Michael Grandage set to direct the film.

A couple of years ago it was reported that Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were in the mix for the lead roles originally played by Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando, but we don’t know if that’s still on the cards.

Based on Damon Runyon’s short stories, “Guys and Dolls” is set in New York and centres on Nathan Detroit (Sinatra), who is challenged by his pal Sky Masterson (Brando) to take the wholesome female missionary Sarah Brown (Jean Simmons) to Havana. But they fall for each other, and the bet has a hidden motive to finance a crap game.

John Goldwyn is producing with Working Title.

Grandage directed a stage version of the musical in the West End in 2005, which starred Ewan McGregor as Masterson and Douglas Hodge as Nathan Detroit.

The news comes via Deadline.
