Gyllenhaal still chasing balls

“Brokeback Mountain” star as Joe Namath

Jake Gyllenhaal is apparently in talks to play footballer Joe Namath in a film based on the legendary sportman’s life, says Variety.

The only question is… when the heck is Gyllenhaal, who seems to be attached to about twenty projects at the moment, going to find time to do this one?

Whatever the case, Reese’s new bed-bud apparently got the thumbs up from Namath who believes he and screenwriter David Hollander are the right people to bring his story to the masses.

While other quarterbacks racked up bigger lifetime stats, Namath became the first football player to achieve rock-star status. The pic will tell the story of how the golden-armed kid from Beaver Falls, Pa., became Broadway Joe, the New York Jets quarterback who became a ’60s cultural figure.

The film probably won’t start up until about this time next year because Gyllenhaal’s solid booked for the best part of 2008.
