Disney has found it’s Ariel in actress Halle Bailey.
Bailey, who with her sister forms R&B duo Chloe x Halle, takes on the fleshy form of the mermaid who wishes to live on dry island. In director Rob Marshall’s live-acton redo of “The Little Mermaid”, Ariel gets her wish.
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” “Chicago” helmer Marshall in a statement.
Bailey joins Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina in the latest human-led redo of a Disney animated classic.
