Halloween resurrected by Saw duo

Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remake

The long-gestating return of the “Halloween” movie franchise to the big screen seems to have taken a positive turn – well, it’s inching closer towards happening, anyway.

Umpteen years after The Weinstein’s passed on Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer’s proposal for a “Halloween 3D” (which, I believe, was to be somewhat connected to Rob Zombie’s two movies – complete with Scout Taylor-Compton back in the role of Laurie Strode), the studio’s hired another writing unit to take a stab at resurrecting Michael Myers. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the duo behind the “Feast” movies, as well as seven “Saw” movies, are crafting what’s called a “recalibration” of the franchise. What that essentially means is that they don’t want to call it a remake, or a reboot, because at this stage, they’ve no idea what they’re doing. It’s all early days.

Personally, I hope they move on from the Strode story.. or at least jump a generation and chronicle the adventures of her now grown-son (played by Josh Hartnett in “Halloween H2O”) as he attempts to battle his own demons… and nutty Uncles. Just an idea.

Matt Stein, the son of “Halloween” head-honcho Moustapaha Akkad, is producing the new film.
