Happy Fett!

Is Boba's offspring in the film?

Rumoured for years, Lucasfilm confirmed today that a future standalone “Star Wars” movie will fix on the ever-popular villain Boba Fett.

Set for release in 2018, the Simon Kinberg-written film will chronicle the adventures of the bounty hunter prior to his demise at the Sarlac in 1983’s “Return of the Jedi” (though, in the EU books, Boba Fett actually survived that. How does that explain the burp though!?). Early plans for the film (Lawrence Kasdan had pitched the idea, initially) involved scrapping the backstory set-up for Fett in the “Star Wars” prequels and starting anew with the character, so the character could maintain the sense of mystery he had in the original trilogy. No word if that’s still the case because The Wrap, who broke the news on the Fett movie (Please let it be called ‘Fett’!), were unable to gather up any plot specs.

Josh Trank had been previously set to direct the film, but was forcibly removed from the project due to a kerfuffle with writer Kinberg. No doubt a new director will be announced very shortly.
