High Fidelity TV series planned for Disney streaming service

2000’s “High Fidelity”, which starred John Cusack in the lead role, is reportedly getting remade into a TV series, but this time with a female in the lead role. The series is in early development for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, reports Deadline.

Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka are said to be writing the show alongside the Midnight Radio producing team and ABC Signature Studios.

According to Deadline, the “High Fidelity” TV series is described as a departure from the book and the movie while still capturing the romantic comedy and authentic spirit of the original source materials. It’s said to centre on a record store owner — a female take on the character played in the movie by Cusack —  talking straight to the camera as she chronicles past relationships.

The 2000 romantic-comedy was based on the novel of the same name by Nick Hornby, and saw Cusack as Rob Gordon, a music store owner who can’t make his relationships last. To improve his poor track record and understanding of women, he decides to seek out some of his old flames. It also starred big names like Jack Black, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joan Cusack and a bunch of other Cusacks. It was rated R but the TV series is said to have more of a “family feel” to it.
